  11. Here is a list of some important files and directories on this disc.

  13. setup.exe             Installation program for Windows (95/98/ME/NT & 3.1).

  15. utils\w32view.exe     File Browser for Windows 95/98, Windows NT, and Win32s.
  16. utils\w16view.exe     File Browser for Windows 3.1.

  18. qrz.exe               The MSDOS callsign lookup program.  You can also run 
  19.                       this directly from the DOS prompt by switching to
  20.                       your CDROM drive and typing 'qrz'.

  22. qrzhelp.txt           Help file for the MSDOS callsign program, qrz.exe.

  30. Quick Start Instructions:
  31.  
  32.   Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000:
  33.     You can install the program icons by selecting the "Start" menu and
  34.     choosing "Run".  At the Run box, type: "D:\setup",  assuming 'D' is
  35.     your CDROM drive.
  36.  
  37.   Windows 3.1/NT:
  38.     Go to "File" menu under program manager and choose Run.  At the
  39.     Command Line box, type: "D:\setup", assuming 'D' is your CDROM drive.
  40.     This will install a group folder with icons for this CDROM.

  44. Installing QRZ To Run Entirely From Your Hard Disk Drive (OPTIONAL):
  45.  
  46.     The QRZ CDROM data files may be copied to your hard disk drive so
  47.     that you can use your CDROM drive for other purposes.  You will
  48.     need about 600 Megabytes of free disk space to copy the data.
  49.  
  50.     To install to hard disk, follow these steps:
  51.  
  52.     Suppose that you wish to copy the data to your C: drive, and that
  53.     your CDROM drive is the D: drive on your system.
  54.  
  55.     1. Use the Windows Explorer (My Computer) to open your C: drive
  56.        at the root (C:\) level.
  57.  
  58.     2. Open another Window Explorer window into your D: (cdrom) drive.
  59.  
  60.     3. Use the mouse to drag the folder called CALLBK from the D: drive
  61.        to the C: drive.  This will initiate a copy operation.
  62.  
  63.     When the copying has finished, you may remove the CDROM from its
  64.     drive.  The next time QRZ starts, it will find the C:\CALLBK folder
  65.     and use it for the database and pictures.
  66.  
  67.     Note: The folder must be in the root of the hard disk drive (i.e.
  68.     C:\CALLBK).  The software will not find the data files if the folder
  69.     is placed elsewhere (like Program Files).

  74. Viewing The Disc With A Web Browser:
  75.  
  76. We have included 00_index.htm files so the user may use a Web browser
  77. to explore the disc.  This method cannot be used to search for callsigns,
  78. but, you will be able to look at pictures, radio mods, and other files.

  80. In order to view this disc using these 00_index.htm files, point your
  81. Web browser to the root level 00_index.htm file.

  85.   1. Click on "File"
  86.   2. Click on "Open File"
  87.   3. Choose your CDROM drive
  88.   4. Select the 00_index.htm file

  103. To make browsing the disc easier, we have included the program WinView
  104. for Windows on the CDROM.  This program allows you to page through index
  105. files, browse through directories on the CD, view documentation and
  106. uncompress/install the program(s) you want onto your hard disk.

  110. More Email Addresses!

  112. Email Address Database QRZ was born on the Internet and is today one of
  113. the most popular amateur radio Internet sites anywhere.  Over the past
  114. year, we've been collecting the email addresses of amateur radio
  115. operators from around the world.  Now, for the first time we are able
  116. to share them with you as a component of the main QRZ database.  There
  117. are over 180,000 e-mail addresses contained in the callsign database.
  118. The email addresses are displayed right along with the regular callsign
  119. data, whenever they are available.  You can make online updates to your

  127. Callsign Database Updates

  129. We now have listings from USA, Canada, Australia, Argentina, Austria,
  130. Mexico, UK, Italy, Turkey, Monaco, Brazil, Portugal, Cuba, Taiwan, the
  131. CIS (formerly the Soviet Union), and miscellaneous listings from
  132. everywhere.  Since the introduction of our online DX callsign
  133. registration form, we've begun to take on hundreds of new, exotic
  134. callsigns each month.  We're still looking for more DX callsign
  135. databases, and you could qualify for a free subscription to QRZ for
  136. helping us obtain more countries.  For more info contact the author

  142. While we strive to maintain the most accurate database available, it's 
  143. not always possible.  If some of your information is missing, incorrect
  144. or outdated, please visit our online website where you can make the

  156. Digital QSL Image Updates
  157.  
  158. Our digital QSL images have become so popular that the entire CDROM is
  159. now completely filled.  At present, the CD will hold about 15,000 images
  160. in addition to the callsign database data.  Since our online collection
  161. contains some 19,000 images, we had to leave some of them (about 4000) off
  162. of this edition.  The oldest images in our collection were left off.  
  163. We chose the oldest images because they have already been published on
  164. previous editions of the CDROM.
